Maria Kim Angela Segui
Gubat, Sorsogon
Maria Kim Angela Segui rediscovered painting in 2019, an interest she had loved since she was a young child. When she looks back on her journey, she remembers how her mother's ability to sketch for school assignments and her father's handicraft company had a significant impact on her artistic inclinations, giving her a strong desire to pursue painting and incorporate art into her life. Despite actively participating in art projects during her school years, Maria had to prioritize her academic pursuits, temporarily setting aside her artistic endeavors.
But after graduating from college, she was inspired to return to art by a local artist named Ate Pinta. Since then, she has given her all to her painting and has started teaching kids and teens art therapy. In addition to that, Maria runs a small business with her fiancé, focusing on craft projects, murals, and paintings.
Her painting is primarily inspired by her emotional journey; impressionistic and abstract styles are her areas of expertise. One of Maria's favorite pieces, "Vehemence," is a stunning artwork that features two human faces and she uses empowering, warm colors. These colors stand for following one's passions.
As an art instructor, Maria emphasizes the importance of having faith in the creative process. She motivates her art students to persist and always strive for excellence in all their endeavors. She is looking forward to using new technology in the future to develop her artistic identity in the ever-changing art scene.
